YALSA releases new book on outstanding books for the college bound
CHICAGO - The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), the fastest growing division of the American Library Association (ALA), is pleased to announce the release of "More Outstanding Books for the College Bound." Designed for school library media specialists, young adult (YA) librarians, and adults working with children and young adults as they prepare for their next educational adventure, the book covers 45 years of recommended titles - from 1959-2004.
More than just a list of outstanding books, this enjoyable, made-for-browsing reference acts as a convenient collection development tool for libraries and community organizations; engages readers with lively annotations; provides a "quick look," graphical representation of the top 23 titles chosen over the life span of the lists; and serves as an excellent study tool for both young adult and older readers. The book also will appeal to parents, teachers, counselors, and anyone committed to lifelong learning.
"What I love most about 'More Outstanding Books for the College Bound' is that it offers so much in one volume-public librarians can refer to it for summer reading lists, teens interested in college can dip in and select titles to read, school librarians turn to this work for collection development, and anyone who wants to read some good, meaty books can find lots of suggestions inside," said YALSA president Pam Spencer Holley.
"More Outstanding Books for Young Adults" is available online at
www.alastore.ala.org or by calling 1-800-545-2433 and pressing 7. The book is $35 for non-members and $31.50 for members, ISBN: 0-8389-3553-2.
The latest Outstanding Books for the College Bound list also is available in a booklet. This booklet guides high school students and lifelong learners in selecting fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama. The booklets come in packs of 50, and cost $27 for ALA members and $30 for non-members, item #5141-0401.
For nearly 50 years YALSA has been the world leader in selecting books, videos, and audiobooks for teens. For more information about YALSA or for lists of recommended reading, viewing and listening go to
