RUSA to offer preconference, “A Tribute to New Orleans,” in historic French Quarter at Annual Conference on June 23
CHICAGO— The History Section of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) is offering a preconference, “Behind the Genealogy Reference Desk: A Tribute to New Orleans,” on Friday, June 23, 2006, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., during the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in New Orleans.
At this one-day educational event attendees will explore the rich genealogical resources of New Orleans with expert genealogists and learn how to preserve and protect institutional and family genealogy records and local history treasures.
The preconference is being held at the Arsenal (
http://lsm.crt.state.la.us/arsenal.htm), built in 1839 and designed by famous architect James Dakin. There will be a catered lunch served in the courtyard of the Cabildo, which is next to the Arsenal. As part of the day's events, attendees will be given a tour of the Cabildo (
http://lsm.crt.state.la.us/cabex.htm). The Cabildo, built in 1799, is where the
Louisiana Purchase was signed. It is located in historic Jackson Square at the heart of the French Quarter or Vieux Carre.
