Register for one of RUSA’s Midwinter Institutes

on Business Reference or Genealogy

CHICAGO—The Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), presents two full-day institutes, “Business Librarianship 101: Core Competencies for Business Librarianship” and “Behind the Genealogy Reference Desk: Want Land, Will Travel,” on Friday, January 19, 2007, during the Midwinter Meeting in Seattle.

“Business Librarianship 101: Core Competencies for Business Librarianship,” institute, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., provides an introduction for reference librarians and business information specialists to some of the key resources and strategies employed in business reference and research.

“Behind the Genealogy Reference Desk: Want Land, Will Travel,” institute, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., provides reference librarians, archivists, bibliographers, genealogists and historians information about the genealogical research of the Pacific Northwest and land claim records, techniques for power searching ancestry databases and how to incorporate historical events into family trees.

The institutes are open to ALA members and non-members, including those who are not registered for the ALA 2007 Midwinter Meeting and would like to register an only the institute. The registration prices for the “Behind the Genealogy Reference Desk: Want Land, Will Travel,” institute are RUSA member $95; ALA member $140; non-ALA member $215; student and retired member $57. The registration prices for “Business Librarianship 101: Core Competencies for Business Librarianship” institute are RUSA member $125; ALA member $170; non-ALA member $245.00; Student/Retired Member $99.
