2006 David H. Clift Scholarship winner named
CHICAGO - The American Library Association (ALA) is pleased to announce Ashley E. Locke of Glen Ellyn, Illinois as the 2006 recipient of the David H. Clift Scholarship.
The Clift Scholarship, named for David H. Clift, a former director of ALA, provides $3,000 to individuals pursuing a master's degree in library and information studies.
Locke's interest in librarianship was sparked by a combination of experiences beginning with the opportunity to have hands-on access to original artwork in the Prints and Drawings room of the British Museum.
Her job in the Illinois Wesleyan University's archives and special collections, along with an internship with the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust solidified this interest.
"My current position as assistant manager for a rare books dealer has further opened my eyes to the value of books, manuscripts, and other archival materials," said Locke.
Locke desires to be an archivist.
She plans to bring to the field her strong work ethic that helped her to graduate summa cum laude as an undergraduate.
Locke envisions herself archiving for a university or museum, preserving and developing their collections, as well as finding ways to make those collections user-friendly through technology.
Locke will be attending the University of Maryland at College Park.
