2006 Marshall Cavendish Scholarship winner named

CHICAGO - The American Library Association (ALA) is pleased to announce Kate Napolitano of Ringwood, New Jersey as the 2006 recipient of the Marshall Cavendish Scholarship.

The $3,000 scholarship was established with a donation from the Marshall Cavendish Corporation in Tarrytown, N.Y., publishers of illustrated reference books for libraries.
It is awarded to a person pursuing a master's degree in library and information studies.

Napolitano's professional goal is to become the head of a children's library department.
She has been involved with libraries since middle school.
For the past six summers she has joyfully read to children as a Reading Pal Volunteer for the Ridgewood Public Library (N.J.).
For the past three summers she was employed as a full-time library assistant, where she designed a series of programs for children of all ages entitled Hans Christian Andersen Festival.
She says "her wonderful library experiences" inspired her to go to library school upon graduating from Fairfield University.

Napolitano loves working with kids and wants to offer leadership to children's librarianship as a full time professional librarian.

Napolitano will be attending Rutgers University.
