Janice Trapp wins the Sullivan Award For Public Library Administrators Supporting Services To Children Award
CHICAGO - The American Library Association (ALA) is pleased to announce Janice Trapp as the recipient of the Sullivan Award For Public Library Administrators Supporting Services To Children Award.
The award donated by Peggy Sullivan honors an individual who has shown exceptional understanding and support of public library service to children while having general management/supervisory/administrative responsibility that has included public library service to children in its scope.
Trapp is the director of the James V. Brown Library in Williamsport, Pa. and president-elect of the Pennsylvania Library Association.
She was selected for her outstanding dedication to public library service for children in Lycoming County, Pa., as well as her innovative leadership in promoting and improving public library service to children and their caregivers in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, according to Jury Chair Donna Dziedzic, Naperville Public Library.
"Janice is known throughout the Commonwealth as one of Pennsylvania's most creative, imaginative and indefatigable professional librarians," said Margie Stern, nominator, Pennsylvania Youth Services Task Force Committee.
"It is amazing and gratifying that her roots are as a reference librarian and administrator and yet she has become a shining star in her commitment to improving library services for children."
Trapp is a member of ALA and the Public Library Association (PLA).
She received a B.S. from Lock Haven University, Lock Haven, Pa., and a M.L.S. from the University of Pittsburgh.
Other members of the jury are Barbara W. Cole, State Library of Pennsylvania; Eva M. Davis, Ann Arbor (Mich.) District Library; Rodney E. Lippard; Barton (N.C.) College, Hackney Library; and Karrie L. Waarala, Capital Area District Library, Lansing, Mich.
The 2006 Sullivan Award For Public Library Administrators Supporting Services To Children Award will be presented at the ALA Award Ceremony and Reception Tuesday, June 27, during the ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans.
