Hotel registration hits significant benchmark

CHICAGO - Singer-songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter has been selected as the featured artist of the ALA/ProQuest Scholarship event to benefit the Library Relief Fund and provide scholarships on Saturday, June 24, 2006, 8 - 11 p.m., at the Convention Center Auditorium during the New Orleans Annual Conference.

Over the course of a 10-album recording career, Mary Chapin Carpenter has won five Grammy Awards and sold well over 12 million records. Her most recent album is "Between Here and Gone" (2004).

The Scholarship Event is held to provide scholarships for graduate students in library and information studies. This year, proceeds will also go to the ALA Hurricane Katrina Library Relief Fund.

Tickets are $35 and can be purchased using the online registration form. If you have already registered for the annual conference, and would like to purchase Bash tickets, you can do so using the registration change/update form (this form works whether or not you originally registered online). Also, tickets can be purchased at

In other ALA annual conference news, officials have announced that more than 7,500 hotel rooms have been reserved during the peak Saturday and Sunday night period by conference attendees.

"The room reservations indicate attendance is strong and members are responding to the great conference programs and the opportunity to volunteer and make a difference in New Orleans," said ALA Conference Services Director Deidre Ross.
