ALSC 2006 National Institute registration open
CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), is pleased to announce its 2006 National Institute, "Children's Services Today and Tomorrow," September 14-16, 2006, at the Hilton Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
An optional, free preconference, "Legal Issues Affecting Policies in Children's Services," hosted by the University of Pittsburgh, School of Information Sciences, and Mt. Lebanon Public Library, Pittsburgh, will be held on Thursday, September 14. The Institute dinner and Opening General Session, featuring Newbery Honor and Sibert Award-winning author Susan Campbell Bartoletti, will take place Thursday evening.
On Friday, attendees will participate in workshops in one of three program tracks: "Authors and Illustrators: Artists and Writers Are Real People - Host Them @ your library®";"ALSC National Initiatives: Engaging Your Community in Día Partnerships and Introducing the Kids! @ your library® Campaign;" or "Emerging Technology: Go, Go Gadget!? Technology Trends and Children's Services - What You Need to Know."
Friday's lunch speaker is two-time Caldecott Medalist David Wiesner. An evening reception at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will offer a vendor fair to explore new technology products for youth in public libraries.
Three separate Saturday half-day workshops will focus on:
"Designing Dynamic School-Age Programs," "Storytime Programs Transformed! How to Incorporate Early Literacy Skills from the Every Child Ready to Read Project," and "Welcoming Special Needs Children @ your library®."
Optional tours for an additional fee will be offered on Saturday afternoon, including the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh and a Greater Pittsburgh Libraries Bus Tour.
