Janis Bandelin joins ACRL board

CHICAGO - Janis Bandelin, director of libraries at Furman University in Greenville, S.C., has been elected to the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Board of Directors.

“ACRL can play a critical role in helping academic librarians to be perceived as ‘essential partners in learning and scholarship' on their respective campuses – in supporting student research and life-long learning as well as faculty teaching and research,” said Bandelin. “I am looking forward to serving on the Board.”

She will serve a four-year term as a director-at-large helping direct the affairs of the association; determining its policies or changes therein; actively encouraging support for its goals; establishing financial policies of the association; and helping implement the Strategic Plan. The ACRL Board consists of 13 voting members: five ex officio members and eight elected directors-at-large.

ACRL is a division of the American Library Association (ALA), representing more than 13,000 academic and research librarians and interested individuals. ACRL is the only individual membership organization in North America that develops programs, products and services to meet the unique needs of academic and research librarians. Its initiatives enable the higher education community to understand the role that academic libraries play in the teaching, learning and research environments.
