YALSA announces editor for quarterly journal

CHICAGO - The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA) has appointed Linda Johns, editor of
Young Adult Library Services (YALS).
Beginning with the fall 2005 Teen Read Week issue, Johns will serve as editor for a three-year term and will be responsible for the content of the quarterly journal.

YALS is the perfect venue for young adult librarians to share their insights, trends, research, and thoughts on issues and advocacy for serving teens,” says Johns. “We’re in a generous profession as far as sharing information and ideas with our peers. I’m really excited to help extend discussions on ideas and issues through
Young Adult Library Services.”

Johns, who brings over 15 years’ experience in planning and editing a wide array of publications, is a new young adult librarian and the author of more than 30 books for the school market.
Currently she
is a librarian with the Washington Talking Book and Braille Library administered by the Seattle Public Library.

Johns will be responsible for the textual and pictorial content of the quarterly publication, and will work closely with committees, members and designated YALSA staff members to solicit articles and information.

Young Adult Library Services is the official journal of YALSA.

YALS was created when
Journal of Youth Services (JOYS), a joint publication with the American Association of Library Service to Children (ALSC), ceased publication.
The purpose of
YALS is to serve as a vehicle for continuing education for librarians and library workers serving young adults ages 12 through 18, publish articles of current interest to the profession, showcase research and best practices in the field, provide news from related fields, spotlight significant events of the organization like awards and booklists, offer in-depth reviews of professional literature and resources and serve as the official record of the association.

Subscriptions are a perquisite for YALSA members; the price for nonmembers is $40.
Subscription orders should be sent to
Young Adult Library Services, Customer Service-Subscriptions, 50 East Huron Street, Chicago, IL 60611.
