AASL names editor for resource guides
CHICAGO - The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) has appointed Rebecca Wojahn as editor of its web-based collection of bibliographies of professional resources, the
AASL Resource Guides for School Library Media Program Development,
www.ala.org/aasl/resources.
Wojahn, who has a master's degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, currently serves as education reference librarian at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Additionally, she contributes to the McIntyre Library's series of guides and newsletters and Oxford University Press's "Encyclopedia of Children's Literature."
Wojahn enjoys writing and editing.
Some of her work can be seen in
Cobblestone,
Highlights for Children,
Appleseeds and
Faces.
"As a librarian it is my philosophy to collaborate with educators as much as possible and to foster relationships so that we can work together to embed information literacy skills and a love of learning throughout all curriculum.
These relationships help to keep in tune with educators' and classrooms' library needs.
In fact, as a middle school library media specialist, I created a 'Virtual Vertical File' as a way to index recommended web resources for our schools curriculum on our library web site.
I see this opportunity to serve as editor of the AASL Resources Guides as one step broader in scope," said Wojahn.
The AASL Resource Guides are a collection of web-based bibliographies, arranged alphabetically by frequently used topics in the professional literature.
These bibliographies include books, journal articles, Web sites and other media.
AASL, a division of the American Library Association (ALA), promotes the improvement and extension of library media services in elementary and secondary schools as a means of strengthening the total education program.
Its mission is to advocate excellence, facilitate change and develop leaders in the school library media field. For more information, please see
