ALA Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund raises over $200,000 for Gulf Coast libraries
CHICAGO - The American Library Association's (ALA) Hurricane Katrina Library Relief Fund has raised over $200,000 to help rebuild hundreds of libraries that were damaged or destroyed by the hurricanes in the Gulf Coast region.
Recent donations from The H.W. Wilson Foundation ($50,000) and DEMCO, Inc ($10,500) helped push the total raised beyond $200,000.
"I want to thank all of those who continue to support efforts to rebuild the libraries in the Gulf region through their donations," said ALA President Michael Gorman. "A library is the cornerstone of its community, and each contribution will help a town, a school, or university become whole again."
Over one thousand ALA members, corporations, institutions, foundations, Friends groups, and individuals have contributed to the fund so far.
ALA will be collecting donations for the Hurricane Katrina Library Relief Fund during the ALA Midwinter Meeting in San Antonio, January 20-25, 2006.
Tax-deductible donations to the ALA Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund also can be made at

ALA President Michael Gorman kicked off the relief fund on September 21 with initial support from Bowker, CSA, ProQuest, and RefWorks.
