Author, commentator Andrei Codrescu talks about the librarians in his life at ALA conference in San Antonio, Jan. 20-25
(CHICAGO) Author, commentator, filmmaker and poet Andrei Codrescu will join American Library Association (ALA) President Michael Gorman for a discussion of librarians and education for librarians at the ALA Midwinter Meeting in San Antonio, January 20 - 25. Codrescu will keynote the ALA President's Program in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center Sunday, January 22, at 3:30 p.m.
Codrescu will open the program with reflections on librarians who have had an impact on his life and career, both in his native Romania and his beloved adopted city of New Orleans. Codrescu is a weekly commentator for National Public Radio's "All Things Considered," founded and edits the literary journal Exquisite Corpse, and won a Peabody Award for his travel film, "Road Scholar." He also teaches English at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
Following the keynote address, Michael Gorman will explore key issues in library education. Ranging from "how can the perceived gulf between library and information science (LIS) educators and library practitioners be lessened?" to "Is the 'L' in LIS receiving the attention it deserves?" The program will conclude with a question-and answer session, after which Codrescu will sign copies of his new book "New Orleans, Mon Amour."
"Library education is at the center of how we fulfill our mission of providing the highest quality services to the students, scholars and lifelong learners who depend on our school, public and academic libraries," Gorman said.
