ACRL/CHOICE appoints “Resources for College Libraries” editorial board
CHICAGO – The Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) and its publishing unit, CHOICE, today announced the appointment of members to the Resources for College Libraries Editorial Board.
The new core collection of recommended titles for academic libraries , “Resources for College Libraries” (RCL), is the successor to “ Books for College Libraries 3rd Edition .” RCL, an online and print product whose coverage will include both books and electronic resources, will be co-published by ACRL/CHOICE and R. R. Bowker. The target publication date is September 2006.
The chair of the newly appointed board is Carolyn A. Sheehy, Clare and Lucy Oesterle Director of Library Services, North Central College, Naperville , Ill . The remaining board members are Joan Ellen Broome, Zach S. Henderson Library, Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, Ga. ; Barbara Burd, Everett Needham Case Library, Colgate University, Hamilton, N.Y. ; Brian E. Coutts, Cravens Library, Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, Ky. ; Bradford Lee Eden, University of Nevada Las Vegas Libraries, Las Vegas, Nev.; Stacey Marien, American University Library, Washington ; and Richard Shaw, dean, Learning Resources Center, Technical College of the Lowcountry, Beaufort, S.C. Frances Maloy, ACRL past president; Catherine A. Lee, chair of the ACRL Publications Coordinating Committee; Mary Ellen K. Davis, ACRL executive director; and Irving Rockwood, editor and publisher of CHOICE, will serve as ex officio members.
“The appointment of the editorial board is an important milestone in the development of RCL,” said Irving Rockwood. “Along with the entire RCL editorial team, I look forward to working with Carolyn and this outstanding group of individuals, whose insights and guidance will be crucial to the success of RCL.”
The new board, which will begin its deliberations online, will hold its first formal meeting at the ALA Midwinter Meeting in San Antonio.
“I am a strong believer in the need for a new core collection for academic libraries, so the opportunity to assist with RCL is particularly appealing to me,” said Carolyn Sheehy, chair. “And I am delighted to know that I will have the support and assistance of such an outstanding and well-qualified board.”
