Nominations sought for ALSC 2004 Professional Awards Program
The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), is pleased to invite member nominations and applications for the ALSC 2004 Professional Awards Program. Awards include grants to support library programming, funding to attend the ALA Annual Conference, and research fellowships

The deadline for applications and supporting materials is December 1, 2003.
The ALSC/Sagebrush Education Resources Literature Program Awards
honors an ALSC member who has developed and implemented a unique and outstanding reading or literature program for children. A $1,000 grant is given in support of the winner’s attendance at the 2004 ALA Annual Conference in Orlando.
The (Louise Seaman) Bechtel Fellowship
allows qualified children's librarians to spend a month or more reading and studying at the Baldwin Library of the George A. Smathers Libraries, University of Florida, Gainesville. The Baldwin Library contains over 85,000 volumes of
mostly pre 1950’s children’s literature. Bechtel Fellows receive stipends of $4,000, and their research may be published in
Children and Libraries: The Journal of the Association for Library Service to Children.
Penguin Putnam Books for Young Readers Awards
enables four children’s librarians who work directly with children in elementary schools, middle schools, or public libraries to attend their first ALA Annual Conference. Each librarian will receive a $600 travel grant.
Distinguished Service Award
honors an individual member of ALSC who has made significant contributions to library services to children and/or ALSC. The recipient receives $1,000 and an engraved pin at the ALSC Membership Meeting during the ALA Annual Conference. Both the winner and nominator must be ALSC members.
ALSC Book Wholesalers, Inc. Summer Reading Program Grant
recognizes an ALSC member for developing an outstanding summer reading program. Financial support of $3,000 will be awarded.
