LAMA/YBP Student Writing and Development Award seeks entrants

Students enrolled in American Library Association (ALA) accredited library and information studies programs are invited to submit articles to LAMA/YBP Student Writing and Development Award competition sponsored by the Library Administration and Management Association (LAMA) and YBP, Inc.

The deadline for entries is March 1, 2004.

The LAMA/YBP Student Writing and Development Award honors the best article submitted on a topic in the area of library administration and management.
The topic for the 2004 competition is "Leadership: Assessing Where We Are, Where We Need to Go and How to Get There.”

Entrant essays should discuss the challenges facing libraries and/or librarians in one of the following areas and suggest strategies to address these challenges:

  • Improvement in library services
  • Open, equal access to information
  • The responsibility of all librarians to assume leadership roles and foster and support leadership in others.

Selection criteria include relevance to the theme, applicability to a variety of library settings, originality of ideas, persuasiveness of arguments, quality of writing, clarity of presentation and contribution to the continuing education of the LAMA membership.
The award recipient must be a current student member of ALA and LAMA.

LAMA President Paul Anderson will notify the selected applicant by May 1, 2004.
The winning article will be published in the fall 2004 issue of
Library Administration & Management.
The award recipient also will receive a travel grant of up to $1,000, funded by YBP, Inc., to be used to attend the 2004 ALA Annual Conference in Orlando, Fla.
