Recipients of 3M/NMRT Professional Development Grant announced

Susan Anderson, Joyce Bratton, and Marcia Schmitz have been selected as the 2003 recipients of the 3M/New Members Round Table (NMRT) Professional Development Grant. This grant, sponsored by 3M Library Systems, covers round-trip airfare, lodging and conference registration fees for the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference.

Anderson is an acquisitions and electronic resources librarian at Eastern Washington University in Cheney. Anderson plans to use her time in Toronto to continue her work with the Student and Student Chapter Outreach Committee, as well as the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services.

Bratton will receive her MLIS from San Jose State University in May 2003. She is currently employed as a library technician at the Alameda (Calif.) Free Library. As a new librarian, Bratton plans to use this opportunity to collaborate with colleagues as well as encourage paraprofessionals to join ALA and NMRT.

Schmitz is a librarian/nonprofit resource specialist at the Center for Nonprofit Management in Los Angeles. This will be Schmitz’s first national conference. While in Toronto, Schmitz plans to establish a network of professional colleagues, attend meetings and collect information to be distributed to organizations supported by her center.

3M Library Systems markets materials flow management products to libraries to prevent unauthorized borrowing and to streamline the flow of library materials. Since its inception, almost 100 NMRT members have benefited from this grant. The committee would like to congratulate the recipients of the 3M/NMRT Professional Development Grant as well as thank 3M for its continued support of NMRT and its programs.
