Fossum receives 2003 NMRT Shirley Olofson Memorial Award
Michelle Crowell Fossum is the 2003 recipient of the New Members Round Table (NMRT) Shirley Olofson Memorial Award. This award, named in honor of late NMRT President Shirley Olofson, is given annually to a member of the American Library Association (ALA) NMRT in order to defray the costs of attending the ALA Annual Conference.
Criteria for the award include membership in ALA and NMRT, promise or activity in the area of professional development and financial need.
Fossum is the head librarian at Oakland Catholic High School in Pittsburgh. She is a 2001 graduate of the MLS program at the University of Pittsburgh, and a 2002 graduate of the certificate of advanced study program at the University of Pittsburgh. While at University of Pittsburgh, Fossum was involved in revamping the curriculum for the school library certification program.
She is a member of the American Association of School Librarians; the Young Adult Library Services Association; Beta Phi Mu National Honor Society; the Catholic Library Association; and the Pennsylvania School Librarians Association. Fossum currently serves on the NMRT Student and Student Chapter Outreach Committee and the New Writer’s Support Ad Hoc Committee.
