The American Library Association (ALA) has named Sarah C. Hodgson of Oakland, Calif., as the recipient of the 2003 Tom and Roberta Drewes Scholarship.

The $3,000 scholarship is awarded to individuals currently working as library support staff and is to be used towards studies for a master’s degree in library and information science.

Currently, Hodgson works in children’s services at the Oakland Public Library as a coordinator for a variety of projects.
Her goal is to advocate for children’s rights, increase family literacy efforts and expand outreach services. Hodgson also is interested emergent literacy and adult literacy initiatives in culturally and linguistically diverse communities. She serves as an adult literacy tutor and attends San Jose State University.
