2003 Miriam L. Hornback Scholarship winner named

The American Library Association (ALA) is pleased to announce that Larra Clark, Chicago, is the 2003 Miriam L. Hornback Scholarship winner.

The $3,000 award is given to an ALA or library support staff member to finance studies toward a master’s degree in library and information studies.
The scholarship was named in memory of Hornback, a longtime ALA staff member, who was secretariat to the ALA Council and Executive Board.

Currently, Clark is the press officer at the ALA.
She will be attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

“Fundamentally, I perceive librarianship to be an activist pursuit, as well as a career path,” said Clark.
“I see a perfect marriage of my current skills and experiences with the information management skills I would gain as a library student.
I hope to gain a more intimate perspective of librarianship so that I can better serve librarians nationwide.”

Clark was recognized in June during the ALA Annual Conference in Toronto.
