2003 Christopher J. Hoy/ERT Scholarship winner named

Jill Pitts of Marysvale, Utah, is the winner of the American Library Association (ALA) Christopher J. Hoy/ERT Scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded to persons pursuing a master’s degree in library and information studies.
Pitts has worked in libraries for the past seven years.
She will be attending Emporia State University.

The $3,000 scholarship was established by a donation from Hoy’s family and the Exhibits Round Table.
Hoy was the director of ALA Conference Services for more than 20 years.

“I believe there is great power in having the skills that foster lifelong learning,” Pitts said.
“I want to help others find the excitement that comes with knowledge and provide them with the tools they need to succeed in life.”

Pitts feels committed to the people she serves in the library and to the library profession. She wants to take a leadership role in promoting information literacy, and in advocating for higher budgets in rural Utah libraries.

Pitts was recognized in June during the ALA Annual Conference in Toronto.
