Morningstar Foods, Inc. latest corporate sponsor for Slammin’ @ your library ®

Morningstar Foods, Inc. is the latest corporate sponsor to support Teen Read Week 2003 themed “Slammin’ @ your library,” (October 19-25, 2003), a national literary initiative that encourages recreational reading among teenagers.
This is the first year Morningstar Foods, Inc., has partnered with Teen Read Week’s creator Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA).

"The American Library Association is an extraordinary organization," said Julie Cary, vice president of Morningstar Foods, Inc.
"Morningstar Foods, Inc. is proud to be associated with Teen Read Week.
Over the past three years, we have implemented programs in partnership with ALA where we have been able to fuel the imagination of teens through reading."

“Slammin’ @ your library
â,” celebrates the popularity of poetry with teen readers. Teen Read Week will be celebrated in hundreds of schools, bookstores and libraries across the country.
Teens will be encouraged to “Read for the Fun of it,” so their reading skills will stay sharp, and they will develop a lifelong reading habit.

“YALSA is pleased to have Morningstar as a sponsor for Teen ReadWeek,” said YALSA President Audra Caplan. “This sponsorship will allow us to spread the word about Teen Read Week and help to promote literacy for teens across the country.
We are confident that the resurging popularity of poetry among teens will make ‘Slammin’ the most successful Teen Read Week yet!”

Now in its sixth year, Teen Read Week is aimed at teens, their parents, librarians, educators, booksellers and other concerned adults.
Its goals are to give teens the opportunity to read for the fun of it, allow teens to select their own reading material and help teens get in the habit of reading regularly and often.

Teen Read Week nonprofit partners include: American Association of School Administrators, American Booksellers Association, Cable in the Classroom, International Reading Association, Kids Care, KIDSNET, National Association of Secondary School Principals, National Council of Teachers of English, National Education Association, National School Boards Association, SmartGirl.org, The N/Noggin, Speak Up Press, and
TeenInk.
