International Literacy Day Tool Kit re-launched

The American Library Association’s (ALA) Office for Literacy and Outreach Services (OLOS) is pleased to announce the re-launch of the International Literacy Day Tool Kit. International Literacy Day is observed annually on September 8.

The toolkit was compiled to help communities support the development of the nation’s adult education and language system. The toolkit provides ideas and samples of activities to help literacy stakeholders celebrate International Literacy Day. Many of the ideas contained in it can be used any time of the year and in conjunction with various programs.

The toolkit was originally produced in 2002 by the National Literacy Summit Initiative, a special project of the National Coalition for Literacy and funded by the National Institute for Literacy. Dale Lipschultz, ALA Literacy Officer, chairs the Summit Initiative.

To download a copy of the toolkit, visit the Adult Literacy page of the
OLOS Web site at .

As the ALA representative to National Coalition for Literacy, OLOS encourages the use and wide dissemination of the toolkit.
