Century Scholarship endowment established
The Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASCLA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), announces the establishment of the Century Scholarship endowment.
The endowment of $25,000 was raised from member and vendor donations, and will fund an annual scholarship of
$2,500 for services or accommodations for a library school student or students with disabilities admitted to an ALA-accredited library school.
"Due to the generosity of contributors, students with disabilities who are seeking an ALA accredited degree are receiving financial support,” stated ASCLA President Tom Sloan.
“ The Century Scholarship strengthens our profession by increasing diversity in the professional ranks and by ensuring the profession reflects the diversity of the communities we serve."
ASCLA is the ALA division devoted to the development of specialized and cooperative library activities.
Its 1,000 members represent state library agencies, specialized library agencies, multitype library cooperatives and librarians who work outside of traditional library settings.
More information regarding the Century Scholarship’s diversity initiative is available on the ASCLA Web page at
www.ala.org/ascla, and click on Awards. Additional donations to the Century Scholarship endowment may be sent to ASCLA Century Scholarship, ASCLA/ALA, 50 E. Huron Street, Chicago, IL, 60611.
