ALA, Logitech announce fundraising effort to support 21st Century Literacy

CHICAGO and FREMONT, Calif. – November 5, 2003 -- The American Library Association (ALA) and Logitech today launched a program designed to raise funds for the ALA’s 21st century literacy initiatives. Logitech will donate a portion of the sales proceeds for every Logitech cordless mouse sold in U.S. retail stores between October and December 2003.

As part of this effort, Logitech is also launching a “MouseMobile” from its California headquarters. During the next eight weeks, the goodwill-ambassador-on-wheels will travel across the country, raising funds for the ALA and donating Logitech® Click!™ optical mice to local libraries along the way to its final destination – ALA headquarters in Chicago. Stops include San Francisco; San Jose; Los Angeles; San Diego; Dallas; Houston; Phoenix and Chicago.

Logitech will host an online pledge-per-mile program whereby anyone wishing to support this effort can track the MouseMobile’s progress and make a donation to ALA by visiting
www.logitech.com.click4libraries.

The goal of the Logitech program is to raise at least $100,000 for the American Library Association’s efforts to assist and promote libraries as they help children and adults develop the skills they need – the ability to read and use computers.

“As information and technology increasingly shape our society, the skills children and adults need to function successfully now go beyond just being able to read,” said ALA Executive Director Keith Michael Fiels.
“Public, academic and school librarians are at the forefront of teaching the skills necessary to navigate today’s information jungle – whether you’re navigating online or in traditional print resources.”

"Access to information and universal literacy are key elements of a free society,” said Guerrino De Luca, Logitech’s president and chief executive officer. “Logitech is pleased to join with the American Library Association in supporting the 21st century literacy program and its efforts to preserve and expand these important rights. We are committed to providing financial resources for this important outreach, as well as mice for computer stations at local libraries, where everyone – young and old alike – can enjoy the vast knowledge base of today’s Internet.”
