YALSA announces editor for new journal

The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA) has appointed Jana R. Fine, editor of
Young Adult Library Services: The Journal of the Young Adult Library Services Association. Fine will serve as editor for a three-year term and will be responsible for the content of the journal.

"I am thrilled to be a part of this new exciting publication in the field of professional journals for those who work for and with young adults," said Fine. "YALSA's new journal will become a forum for all areas related to library work with teens including advocacy, building community partnerships, adolescent development, and many other components that professionals need to build a strong visible arena for positive youth development."

In the mid-nineties, Fine served as editor for the YALSA member newsletter,
Voices, which has since been replaced by the online newsletter,
YAttitudes. She also has served as guest editor for two recent issues of the
Journal of Youth Services in Libraries (JOYS). The theme of the Fall 2001 issue was "Library/Community Partnerships," and Fine and Kay Bishop jointly edited the Spring, 2002, issue, "Celebrating 15 Years of JOYS."

Fine is youth services manager for the Clearwater (Fla.) Public Library System. She is a past president of YALSA and is currently an ALA Councilor-at-Large.

YALSA will begin publication of the journal with a special inaugural issue later this year.
Young Adult Library Services will be published twice a year, in the Spring and Fall. The purpose of the journal is to serve as a vehicle for continuing education for library staff members who serve young adults, ages 12 through 18, in school and public libraries. It will include articles of current interest (either refereed or solicited by the editor), act as a showcase for best practices, and spotlight significant events of the association. The journal also will serve as the official record of YALSA. The inaugural issue will focus on teen reading and young adult literature.

Subscriptions are a perquisite for YALSA members, the price for nonmembers is $40. Subscription orders should be sent to
Young Adult Library Services,Customer Service-Subscriptions, 50 East Huron Street, Chicago, IL 60611.
