First annual ALA Diversity Research Grant proposal deadline extended
The deadline for submitting proposals for the ALA Diversity Research Grant has been extended to April 15, 2002. Continuing the American Library Association's (ALA) commitment to diversity, the ALA Office for Diversity has begun sponsorship of a Diversity Research Grant to address critical gaps in the knowledge of diversity issues within library and information science. Anyone with an interest in diversity scholarship is encouraged to apply; the only eligibility requirement is that researchers submitting proposals must be a current member of the ALA.
Each year the ALA Office for Diversity and the Diversity Research Grant Jury will identify three areas of scholarship where research is needed. Proposals for the 2002 Diversity Research Grant should address one of the following three topics:
- Integrating Diversity into Library School Curriculum
- Upward Mobility of Library Leaders from Underrepresented Populations
- Community Partnering & Resource Coalitions: A Networking Model for Successful Recruitment, Outreach and Diversity
The 2002 Diversity Research Grant consists of a $2,000 award for original research and a $500 travel grant to attend and present the winning proposal at the ALA Annual Conference. One proposal will be chosen from each of this year's topics for a total of three awards. Grant recipients will be expected to compile the results of their research into a paper and present and publish the final product in conjunction with the ALA.
