BRASS Thomson Financial Student Travel Award recipient named

Christy A. Donaldson, graduate student in library and information science, Drexel University, reference intern, Lippincott Library of the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, is the recipient of the 2002 Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS) Thomson Financial Student Travel Award. BRASS, a section of the Reference and Users Services Association (RUSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), presents the award to the candidate who has demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career as a business reference librarian and the potential to be a leader in the profession.

A cash award of $1,000 is donated by Thomson Financial, part of the Thomson Corporation, to enable a student enrolled in an ALA-accredited master's program to attend the ALA Annual Conference.

"Ms. Donaldson's M.B.A. from Philadelphia University and work experience in e-commerce give her the solid background in business that will help her to succeed in business librarianship," said Ryan Womack the award committee chair. "Since returning to school, she has actively worked to improve her library skills through her coursework and library assistantships. Her enthusiasm and personal initiative in taking on challenging assignments and responsibilities demonstrates her leadership potential."

The award will be presented at the RUSA Awards Ceremony on June 17, 2002, from 4 to 6 p.m., during the ALA Annual Conference in Atlanta.
