ALTA and LFF announce preconference
The preconference "Speaking Up and Speaking Out: an Advocacy Seminar for Trustees" will take place Friday, June 14, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., during the American Library Association (ALA) 2002 Annual Conference in Atlanta.
Co-sponsored by the Association for Library Trustees and Advocates (ALTA), a division of ALA, and Libraries For the Future (LFF), a non-profit library advocacy organization, the interactive program will explore, explain and extol the leadership role of trustees in all aspects of library advocacy.
Skilled, dynamic mentors and trustees will lead discussions that examine the following topics:
- The advocacy role and responsibilities of trustees
- Knowing what to say about your library-and when and whom to say it
- Understanding the library's funding landscape
- Becoming a mentor/trainer to other trustees
- Community needs assessment
- Expanding your community support base
- Moving from strategy to action: the advocacy plan
- Partnering: the essential library strategy
- Advocacy situations in library systems
