ALSC hires editor for new journal

The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has hired Sharon Korbeck as editor of its new journal,
Children and Libraries: The Journal of the Association for Library Service to Children.

"I am delighted to be coming on board with ALSC and
Children and Libraries," said Korbeck. "I welcome this unique and exciting opportunity to draw on my experience in children's librarianship and journalism to help establish a strong, fresh and compelling professional journal for children's librarianship. Journalism and librarianship have always been my two passions, and this position allows me to weave the two together."

Korbeck is the editorial director at Krause Publications, Iola, Wis., where she provides editorial leadership for three national magazines. She was a children's/young adult librarian at the Milwaukee Public Library from 1991 through 1994. She also has conducted preschool story hours and presented adult programs at the Waupaca (Wis.) Area Public Library. Korbeck currently is a children's book reviewer for
School Library Journal, and has extensive experience in writing, editing and launching new and revamped magazines.

Korbeck has a master's degree in library and information science from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and a bachelor's degree in English, with a minor in journalism and radio/TV broadcasting, from the University of Wisconsin - Platteville.

The first issue of
Children and Libraries will be published in the spring of 2003. The mission of the journal is to promote, strengthen and support library service to children by providing scholarly research and practical information that serve as resources for practitioners and all those who work on the behalf of children from birth to age 14.
Children and Libraries also will serve as the official record of ALSC, reporting on its events and activities.

Subscriptions are a perquisite of ALSC membership. The subscription price for nonmembers is $40 ($50 for international subscribers). Subscription orders should be sent to
