2002 Tom and Roberta Drewes Scholarship winner named

The American Library Association (ALA) has named Mary H. Bass, New Orleans, as the recipient of the 2002 Tom and Roberta Drewes Scholarship.

The $3,000 scholarship is awarded to individuals currently working as library support staff and is to be used towards studies for a master's degree in library and information science.

Bass holds bachelors and master's degrees in English. Bass says her love of literature led to an interest in literacy. She has volunteered with literacy programs for a number of years, and now wants to work in this area at a fundamental level as a children's librarian. She plans to use her skills to develop community literacy and outreach programs.

Currently, Bass works at Tulane University as a library general technician. She will be attending the University of Washington.

Bass was recognized in June during the ALA Annual Conference in Atlanta.
