2002 Miriam L. Hornback Scholarship winner named

The American Library Association (ALA) has named Lucinda Moriarity of Brookfield, Ill., as the 2002 Miriam L. Hornback Scholarship winner.

The $3,000 award is given to an ALA or library support staff member to finance studies toward a master's degree in library and information studies. The scholarship was named in memory of Hornback, a longtime ALA staff member, who was secretariat to the ALA Council and Executive Board.

Through participation at various conferences and workshops, Moriarity gained insight and an understanding of services to youth. She says she has first-hand knowledge of the many benefits a child receives by being exposed to good literature at an early age. She has an appreciation for the many products being produced today for children and young adults. She hopes to bring new skills and enthusiasm to serving youth.

Currently, Moriarity works as a youth services assistant at the Brookfield Public Library, and attends Dominican University.

Moriarity was recognized in June during the ALA Annual Conference in Atlanta.
