2002 Mary V. Gaver Scholarship winner named

The American Library Association (ALA) has named Suzanne Dasaro of Highlands Ranch, Colo., as the recipient of the 2002 Mary V. Gaver Scholarship.

The $3,000 scholarship was established to honor the memory of Gaver, a past ALA president and Rutgers University professor, who made many contributions to library youth services. The scholarship is awarded to a person pursuing a master's degree in library and information studies, with a specialty in youth services.

Dasaro says information, learning and literature have been an integral part of her life. She has worked as an information services assistant for the Arapahoe Library District in Littleton, Colo., and as an English teacher. She also has been a mentor for at-risk teens. Her goal is to promote lifelong learning for young adults by developing innovative programs to foster a love of reading. She will be attending Simmons College in Boston.

Dasaro was recognized in June during the ALA Annual Conference in Atlanta.
