RUSA Isadore Gilbert Mudge - R.R. Bowker Award recipient named

Carole Leita, coordinator of the Librarians' Index to the Internet, instructor and consultant to the InFoPeople Project of the California State Library, is the recipient of the 2001 Isadore Gilbert Mudge-R.R. Bowker Award, which is presented by the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA).

The $5,000 award and citation is donated by R.R. Bowker. The award recognizes distinguished contributions to reference librarianship.

"Carole Leita has blended the best of reference service into the Internet by creating the Librarians' Index to the Internet," Award Committee Chair Chester Bunnell said.

"She also has created a number of useful guides for librarians the world over," Bunnell added. "These guides include: 'Best Search Tools Page,' 'Search Engines Quick Guide,' 'Search Tools Chart' and 'LII WEEK.' She is bringing reference librarianship into the 21st century for many librarians."

The award will be presented June 18, 2001, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the RUSA Awards Ceremony during the ALA Annual Conference in San Francisco.
