Reneker named Futas winner
Maxine H. Reneker is the 2001 recipient of the American Library Association (ALA) Elizabeth Futas Catalyst for Change Award.
The $1,000 award and citation donated by the Elizabeth Futas Memorial Fund, recognizes a librarian who invests time and talent to make positive changes in the profession of librarianship.
Throughout her professional career, she has worked to bring about change in library organizations. Reneker is an active member of the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL), a division of the ALA.
"Reneker has created an enhanced visibility for the library and implemented significant institutional changes that go far beyond anything that could have been anticipated and have become permanent changes at the Naval Postgraduate School and elsewhere," Award Chair Louise S. Sherby said.
"She has furthered the cause and raised the visibility and value of libraries in the military environment," Sherby continued. "She is a mentor and role model."
Dr. Reneker is associate provost for library and information resources, Dudley Knox Library, Navel Postgraduate School, Monterey, Calif. She is a noted author and has presented papers nationally and internationally. She has a bachelor's degree from Carlton College, a master's degree from the graduate library school at the University of Chicago and a doctorate in library science from Columbia University.
The Elizabeth Futas Catalyst for Change Award will be presented Tuesday, June 19, during the ALA Annual Conference in San Francisco.
