Francis Joseph Campbell Award recipient named

Barbara Mates, head of the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped at the Cleveland Public Library, is the recipient of the 2001 Francis Joseph Campbell Award given by the Library Service to People with Visual or Physical Disabilities Forum of the Libraries Serving Special Populations Section of the Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASCLA).

The citation and medal are presented to a person who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of library service for the blind and physically handicapped.

"Barbara Mates' focus on adaptive technology for print-disabled individuals, her contribution as a writer in this field, and many years of service as head of the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped have made her a leader in the fields of literacy and accessibility," Award Committee Chair Ruth Nussbaum said.

The award will be presented June 17, 2001, from 8:30 to 11 a.m., at the ASCLA President's Program and Award Ceremony during the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in San Francisco.
