2001 Mary V. Gaver Scholarship winner named
The American Library Association (ALA) has named Jennifer L. Hart of Richmond, Va., as the recipient of the 2001 Mary V. Gaver Scholarship.
The $3,000 scholarship was established to honor the memory of Gaver, a past ALA president and Rutgers University professor, who made many contributions to library youth services. The scholarship is awarded to a person pursuing a master's degree in library and information studies, with a specialty in youth services.
Hart began her career teaching English because she loved to read. She remembers that as a child she could always be found curled up with a book, but as a teacher she found that not everyone shared her passion for words. As a result, she began to find innovative ways to get her students to discover the joy of reading. Hart says she knows her place in education is in the library. Currently, Hart works as a library assistant at Benedictine High School. She will be attending the University of North Texas.
Hart was recognized in June during the ALA Annual Conference in San Francisco.
