The Library and Information Technology Association is proud to announce that Paige Walker has been selected as a 2020 LITA Emerging Leader.

Walker works as the Digital Collections & Preservation Librarian at Boston College, where she is chair the Born-Digital Archives Working Group and co-chair the Privacy Working Group.

"I am drawn to working in library technology not only because I like to get my hands dirty with the diverse technical obstacles we face in preserving digital content, but also because I enjoy thinking critically about ethical dilemmas generated by our use of technologies. I am particularly drawn to network and information security as they pertain to digital preservation, as well as our obligation as library workers to protect the privacy of our community. I also sit on the National Digital Stewardship Alliance's Coordinating Committee and co-chair the Digital Library Federation's Technologies of Surveillance subgroup for Instruction & Outreach, but have not yet had the chance to expand my interests with the platform of the American Library Association. I look forward to joining the Emerging Leaders program in order join the library information technology community and make progress toward these pressing issues together," said Walker.

ALA’s Emerging Leaders program enables newer library workers to participate in problem-solving work groups, network with peers, gain an inside look into ALA structure, and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity. Following a kickoff session that includes orientation and training, the program will continue in an online learning and networking environment for six months, culminating in a presentation of the groups' work at the 2020 ALA Annual Conference. LITA is sponsoring two Emerging Leaders for 2020 thanks to donations from LITA members and supporters.
