AASL Opens Call For 2027 AASL National Conference Committee Members

AASL27 Horizontal

CHICAGO – The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) seeks enthusiastic and profession-focused school librarians to serve on the 2027 AASL National Conference Committee. The conference, taking place October 14-16, 2027, in Portland, Oregon, is the only national conference dedicated solely to the needs of school librarians and their roles as educational leaders. AASL members may apply at www.ala.org/aasl/app

“Every AASL National Conference is shaped by the expertise, creativity, and dedication of school librarians, and the 2027 conference will be no exception,” said AASL President April Dawkins. “Serving on the Conference Committee is a unique opportunity to help shape an experience that reflects the priorities, challenges, and innovative practices of our profession. I encourage AASL members who are ready to share their perspective and contribute to our profession to consider volunteering for this important work.”

Along with professional learning, the AASL National Conference is an opportunity for school librarians across the country to build professional learning networks and unite as a community. The conference allows school librarians to feel connected, rally spirits, and refresh their dedication to the field. To meet attendees' needs, national conference committee members will be responsible for providing opportunities to connect, identifying current educational needs, and providing dynamic professional development.

Available committee positions include conference co-chairs, programming co-chairs, author co-chairs, local arrangements co-chairs, and social media co-chairs. Click here to apply

Service on the national conference committee is a significant commitment. Once finalized, the committee will meet each month virtually, and attendance is required. Members must work collaboratively with other committee members, meet critical dates and deadlines, and maintain their ALA/AASL membership during their appointment.

Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. on September 30. All applicants will be notified of appointment decisions by October 9.

The American Association of School Librarians, www.aasl.org, a division of the American Library Association (ALA), empowers leaders to transform teaching and learning.
