AASL Commends Linked2Literacy
CHICAGO – Acting upon a resolution submitted by the Nebraska School Librarians Association (NSLA), the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) formally commends Linked2Literacy for inspiring generations by providing inclusive books and literacy education through community partnerships.
Linked2Literacy has developed a comprehensive approach to literacy that goes beyond book distribution by creating meaningful experiences, partnerships, and resources that support lifelong learning. Through initiatives such as the Book Bridge Program and EMPOWERME packs, L2L addresses the diverse needs of children and families while helping communities build stronger literacy foundations. AASL President, April Dawkins, said, "School librarians know that literacy grows strongest when communities work together. Linked2Literacy strengthens that ecosystem by providing resources, partnerships, and advocacy that complement the work of educators and help ensure learners have access to the books and support they need."
NSLA’s AASL Delegate, Rachel Westphalen, shared, "Linked2Literacy exemplifies what is possible when communities come together with a shared commitment to empowering learners. Through strategic partnerships, innovative programming, and a deep understanding of the diverse needs of children and families, L2L has created a literacy model that extends far beyond providing books. This commendation recognizes an organization that is building pathways to lifelong learning through collaboration, inclusion, and meaningful engagement."
AASL Chapter Assembly Chair Steve Tetreault said, "The AASL Chapter Assembly is proud to recognize Linked2Literacy for its exceptional commitment to advancing literacy through collaboration and innovation. Their work demonstrates that when communities invest in children’s literacy journeys, they create opportunities that extend far beyond reading; they create stronger, more connected communities."
