ALA helps libraries gear up for 2026 elections

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Library Association (ALA) once again joins with NonProfit Vote as a premier partner for National Voter Registration Day, taking place this year on September 15, 2026.

In collaboration with election agencies, local nonprofits, and other community leaders, libraries help their communities get #ReaderVoterReady and prepared to make their voices heard in local, state, and national elections. ALA encourages libraries across the country to participate in National Voter Registration Day, as well as other civic holidays, including Voter Education Week and Vote Early Day.

“As we go to the polls in 2026, and every year, voters across the country count on libraries for trusted information, civic conversation, and voting resources,” said ALA President Sam Helmick. “In this year that marks ALA’s 150th anniversary, as well our nation’s 250th anniversary, we reflect on and celebrate the role of libraries as vital civic hubs.”

As we approach the 2026 elections, ALA and the League of Women Voters- a longtime partner of libraries at the local, state and national level – will host a webinar on Wednesday, July 15, at 3pm Eastern. In the webinar, Teaming with Solutions: LWV and Library Collaborations to Empower Voters and Protect Democracy, speakers will share how the voter engagement landscape has changed in recent years, how local Leagues and libraries are evolving their collaborations in response, and how we can all contribute to increasing voter participation in 2026.

Library workers and partners can find sample graphics, social media posts, and other promotional resources at the National Voter Registration Day website and at ALA’s Reader. Voter. Ready. website.
