AASL commends twenty programs, events, and products across the country

CHICAGO — Acting upon recommendations made by its state association chapters, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) formally commended twenty outstanding programs, events, and products for their support of the school librarian profession and the learners the profession serves. To be considered, programs must align with the principles expressed in the national association's mission and value statements.

“These twenty offerings exemplify the power of collaboration and commitment to learners,” said AASL President Amanda Kordeliski. “Each commendation reflects a deep alignment with our mission and values and demonstrates how partners across the country are strengthening school libraries, supporting school librarians, and expanding equitable access to information and learning opportunities for all students.”

The commended programs are:

  • Book Bus/Book Depot, nominated by the Virginia Association of School Librarians
  • Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation, nominated by the North Carolina School Library Media Association
  • Cincy Book Bus/Book Depot, nominated by the Ohio Educational Library Media Association
  • Connecticut Education Association, nominated by the Connecticut Association of School Librarians
  • Connecticut Library Association, nominated by the Connecticut Association of School Librarians
  • Connecticut Library Consortium, nominated by the Connecticut Association of School Librarians
  • Education Association of Charles County, nominated by the Maryland Association of School Librarians
  • Fayetteville Woodpeckers, nominated by the Missouri Association of School Librarians
  • Forbidden Book Club, nominated by the Missouri Association of School Librarians
  • Grandparents for Truth Group in Albuquerque, New Mexico, nominated by the New Mexico School Librarians
  • Manassas Read, nominated by the Virginia Association of School Librarians
  • Maryland Library Association, nominated by the Maryland Association of School Librarians
  • Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, nominated by the Missouri Association of School Librarians
  • Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and Lisa Scroggs, nominated by the Missouri Association of School Librarians
  • Missouri Humanities, nominated by the Missouri Association of School Librarians
  • North Carolina Children’s Book Award Program, nominated by the North Carolina School Library Media Association
  • Richmond Public School's Lit Limo, nominated by the Virginia Association of School Librarians
  • Students Engaged in Advancing Texas (SEAT), nominated by the Texas Association of School Librarians
  • Texas Freedom to Read Project, nominated by the Texas Association of School Librarians
  • Tuscaloosa City School System Innovative Approaches to Literacy Team, nominated by the Alabama School Library Association

The AASL Chapters provide a channel of communication between AASL-affiliated school library organizations and the AASL Board of Directors. An AASL Chapter nominates outstanding programs, events, and products for official AASL commendations, which are then reviewed and approved by the AASL Board of Directors.
