Free November 12 Webinar to Explore Key Findings from New PLA Report on Adult Learning in Public Libraries
CHICAGO — Public libraries play a vital role in supporting adult learning in communities across the country. A new white paper from the Public Library Association (PLA), “Expanding Possibilities: Public Libraries and Adult Learning,” reveals how public libraries are addressing the needs of adult learners through innovative programs, partnerships, and equitable access to lifelong learning opportunities.
Based on a national survey of more than 350 public libraries, a literature review, and in-depth case studies, the report explores adult learners’ priority needs, barriers to participation, funding and evaluation challenges, and the creative strategies libraries are using to meet demand. Key findings show that libraries are essential adult education providers—offering digital literacy training, workforce development programs, health and financial literacy workshops, and community-building opportunities.
“Public libraries meet adult learners wherever they are in their journey--whether they’re pursuing a credential, building new skills, or exploring personal interests. This report underscores how libraries are not just filling gaps but expanding opportunities for lifelong learning in every community,” said PLA President Dr. Brandy McNeil.
PLA will host a free webinar on Wednesday, November 12 at 1:00 PM CT to share and explore key findings from the report. “Expanding Possibilities: Public Libraries and Adult Learning - Insights and Innovations from the Field” will cover:
• Key trends and barriers in adult learning
• Innovative library responses to community needs
• Effective partnership and funding strategies
• Practical ways to strengthen programming
The report and webinar are generously sponsored by Gale, part of Cengage School.
