AI-powered cataloging

book cover for AI-Powered Cataloguing: A Practical Guide to Building a Cataloguing Application with Power Apps

CHICAGO — Published by Facet Publishing and available through the ALA Store, “AI-Powered Cataloguing: A Practical Guide to Building a Cataloguing Application with Power Apps” offers a step-by-step journey to how cataloging processes can be modernized by using artificial intelligence, featuring the Royal Library of Belgium and the retrocatalography application as case studies. Focusing on creating inclusive bibliographic records, Hannes Lowagie’s book will enable readers to train AI models and develop tools to improve efficiency and collection management. Chapters cover:

  • an introduction to cataloging and metadata;
  • getting started with the Power Platform ecosystem;
  • integrating artificial intelligence; and
  • building, deploying, and maintaining the cataloging app.

Lowagie joined the Royal Library of Belgium in 2012 and was appointed head of the Bibliographic Information Agency in 2022. A key aspect of his role has been the development of a retrocataloging application, which is designed to streamline the process of identifying older bibliographic records. He is currently in the process of adapting this application for use with contemporary publications that enter KBR through legal deposit, ensuring that both historical and modern collections are catalogued efficiently and with the most up-to-date tools available.
