When notified he had won, Ricardo responded, " I am honored and grateful to receive the Core Career LIFT Award this year which will allow me to attend Core Forum. I look forward to learning and engaging in conversation around Access & Equity and how to better support students, faculty and staff by providing seamless access to library and information services. Networking and uplifting underrepresented communities is at the forefront of my daily work and this award will foster my personal growth in the library and information profession. My sincerest thank you to the Core LIFT award committee for granting this award!"
Beth Carpenter
Career LIFT Award Sponsored by OCLC
Beth Carpenter is the Undergraduate Engineering & Instruction Librarian at the University at Buffalo. Her BA is from Lawrence University, in English & Religious Studies, and her MLS is from Indiana University Bloomington. She has worked at a variety of higher ed institutions, but one through line remains constant: she uses the tools, frameworks, and concepts undergraduates are familiar with to help them succeed in research and information literacy.
In response to receiving the award, Beth said, "The Core Career LIFT award is immeasurably helpful with my work, both within Core and ALA, as well as my professional life at UB. My personal librarian ethos is focused around making connections, whether it’s students to information or librarian to librarian. This award would help to make those connections possible, as I plan to use the funds to attend Core Forum, a conference I have not yet been able to attend! Continuing to build relationships within Core is something I'm excited to do!"
