Ariana Hussain Elected 2025-2026 ALSC Vice-President/President-Elect

Ariana Hussain, Teacher Librarian, The Blake School, Hopkins, Minnesota, has been elected vice president/president-elect of the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA). She will begin her term as president-elect in July 2025 and assume the presidency in July 2026 for a one-year term.

"I am honored and grateful to our members for their trust and the opportunity to continue serving within ALSC as Vice President/President Elect," Hussain said. "As we confront pressing issues in the broader library community, I am committed to upholding our mission of fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment. I will work alongside members and stakeholders to uplift one another, recognizing the humanity and dignity of all. Together, we will advance ALSC's mission, core values, and strategic areas of focus to build healthy, successful futures for all children and their families."

Hussain has been active in ALA, ALSC, YALSA, and several round tables. She served on the ALSC Board of Directors, and on a variety of committees including ALSC's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Notable Children's Books committees, YALSA's Conference Travel Scholarships Jury, and the ALA Lessa Kanani’opua Pelayo-Lozada Presidential Advisory Group.

She is co-founder and a member of Hijabi Librarians, has written for School Library Journal and is currently a reviewer for The Horn Book and Kirkus Reviews. Hussain also has served on the Board of the Asian Pacific American Librarians Association, as a member of the Board of Directors of the United States Board on Books for Young People and as a member and chair of the Walter Dean Myers Award judging committee for We Need Diverse Books.

Three members were elected to serve on the ALSC Board of Directors: Alia Jones, MLIS student, University of Wisconsin-Madison ISchool, director-at-large; Valerie Tohom, Los Angeles Public Library, California, New-to-ALSC board member; and Robbin Ellis Friedman, Chappaqua Library, New York, fiscal officer.
