2025 American Library Association (ALA) Ethnic and Multicultural Information Exchange Round Table (EMIERT) Distinguished Librarian Award
CHICAGO — Shamika Jamalia Simpson, Professor and Collection Development and Outreach Librarian at Long Beach City College, has been named the recipient of the 2025 American Library Association (ALA) Ethnic and Multicultural Information Exchange Round Table (EMIERT) Distinguished Librarian Award.
Founded in 1982, EMIERT serves as a resource for recommended ethnic and multilingual collections, services, and programs. Awarded biennially, the Distinguished Librarian Award honors significant accomplishments in library services that have national or international impact, particularly those that improve, promote, and advance multicultural librarianship.
EMIERT proudly recognizes the extensive achievements of Shamika Jamalia Simpson, who brings over 14 years of dedicated service in libraries. Her work focuses on equity in librarianship, amplifying the voices of library workers of color, and fostering inclusive library environments through scholarship and public presentations.
As the recipient of the 2025 Distinguished Librarian Award, Simpson will receive a commemorative plaque and a $500 honorarium. The award will be presented during the EMIERT Chair’s Program at the ALA’s 2025 Annual Conference in June.
