AASL Opens Call for AASL Standards Committee Members
CHICAGO – The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) is seeking an inspired and dedicated group of school library professionals to contribute to the AASL Standards Committee. The AASL Standards Committee advances professional practice by guiding the continuous development of resources supporting professional learning, application, advocacy, and other initiatives to promote implementation of the (forthcoming) second edition of the National School Library Standards for Learners, School Librarians, and School Libraries. For more information and the application, visit engage.aasl.org/standards.
"Serving on the AASL Standards Committee presents a meaningful opportunity for members to make a real impact on the future of school libraries," said AASL President-Elect Amanda Kordeliski. "These committee members help shape how we implement the AASL Standards. Professionals who are passionate about supporting the growth of our field and making a difference in how school libraries serve learners and educators will influence the development of tools and strategies to guide practitioners now and for years to come."
The AASL Standards Committee works under the direction of the chair and collaboratively engages in project-work based on the initiatives being carried forward each year from a dynamic plan for implementation of the National School Library Standards. Members of the committee evaluate professional research and trends, maintain and manage a standards implementation strategy, facilitate and develop new resources, and regularly review standards for relevancy in an ever-evolving educational landscape. These activities support school library professionals, at all levels of experience, in effectively implementing the AASL Standards across a range of K-12 educational settings.
The committee will begin observational work in July, collaborating with the current AASL Standards Committee in preparation for the release of the second edition of the National School Library Standards at the 2025 AASL National Conference. While this committee will not be directly responsible for conference offerings, engaging with the current committee work will provide valuable insights to support efforts to advance implementation and further develop projects aligned with the upcoming edition.
Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. on March 24. All applicants will be notified of appointment decisions by May 1.
