Serving LGBTQ teens @ your library with YALSA’s February webinar

CHICAGO — Navigating the transition from childhood to adulthood can be challenging enough, but for teens that identify as LGBTQ, adolescence can be an especially difficult time. For many LGBTQ teens the library is a critical resource to help them explore their questions in a safe environment.

Join Megan Honig on Feb. 16 for YALSA’s Serving LGBTQ Teens webinar at 2 p.m. EST for a look into offering library services to LGBTQ teens. Megan will explore who LGBTQ teens are and will discuss the broad range of experiences among LGBTQ teens. Participants will learn to identify the common information needs of LGBTQ teens and how to develop strategies for supporting LGBTQ teens’ safety and well-being in library spaces.

This webinar will address three areas of the YALSA Competencies:

  • Knowledge of client group
  • Knowledge of materials
  • Services

Honig is a librarian and freelance writer living in Philadelphia. She is the author of the book "Urban Grit: A Guide to Street Lit" and the editor of Young Adult Library Services.

Register today! Registration costs $29 for students, $39 for individual YALSA members, $49 for all other individuals and $195 for group registrations. YALSA’s group rate applies to a group of people that will watch the webinar together in one location.
