Power up your teen programs with YALSA’s winter online course
CHICAGO - Learn new ways to bring more teens into the school and public library in Power Programming, YALSA’s popular online course, which offers up-to-date ideas for programming, from simple, self-running contests to reading celebrations and more.
The self-paced course is taught by Amy Alessio, teen coordinator at the Schaumburg Township (Ill.) District Library and author of several books on teen programs. It takes place Feb. 5 to March 6 and costs $135 for YALSA members, $175 for ALA members and $195 for nonmembers. Students in the course will:
- Learn how to grow non-programming teen services from successful programs. For example, how to take a successful Poetry Slam and turn it into a poetry collection, teen writing journal, cooperative community event.
- Develop an understanding for possible problems with teen programs and plan for appropriate and flexible responses.
- Create a list of resources for developing teen programs year round at their facility.
- Learn how best to utilize YALSA resources and events such as Teen Read Week and Teen Tech Week
